CHR1ST FELLOWSHIP CHURCH
CHR1ST FELLOWSHIP CHURCH
BECOMING 1 IN CHRIST BY KEEPING CHRIST 1ST
I am going through the letter Philippians with my Church Family. It dawned on me Sunday as we looked at chapter 1, what Paul meant when he wrote in Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” In other words Paul was stating, “Heads I win, tails the enemy of my soul loses!”
What a way to look at life. What an attitude to hang your hat on. “Heads I win, tails satan loses”. But how can he say such a thing without backing it up with real life experiences. Enter Philippians Chapter 1. In this chapter alone Paul gives 3 examples of this truth in action in his own life, a life filled with trials.
First, Philippians 1:12 “But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me [Paul’s in prison] have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;” In other words, at the time Paul wrote this letter he was in prison. He was captive. So he was telling the Christians in Philippi, “Understand everything is OK. If I’m free (heads) I win, if I’m in prison (tails) I win because the Gospel of Jesus Christ is being spread.”
Second, Philippians 1:18 “ What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence [selfish ambition], or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.” In other words Paul was encouraging the Christians at Philippi not to worry about preachers who were preaching Jesus for selfish gain and ambition, motivated by greed. “It’s OK. If Jesus is preached for selfish personal gain (heads) or out of right motives (tails) Jesus is still being preached!”
Third, Philippians 1:21 “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Wow! Did you catch that? Paul was in danger of losing his life and what does he say, “Not to worry friends, it’s all good. If I live (heads) I get to LIFT up Jesus. If I die (tails) I get to BE with Jesus!”
Friend I want you to be encouraged this day. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ you must KNOW that “Heads you win, tails the enemy of your soul loses.” Look at Romans 8:28 one last time. “And we KNOW that all things work together for good…” Paul did not write, “And we know HOW or WHY all things work together for good…” Friend do not ever mistake "knowing" with "knowing how" or "knowing why". I do not know how or why most things happen, but I do simply KNOW God is a good God and He withholds no good thing from His children and whatever is happening in our lives, RIGHT NOW, will work for our good.
So what does this mean? Practically, if you get the promotion or not, YOU WIN. If you get the house or not, YOU WIN. If you get the good report from the doctor or not, YOU WIN. If you are vindicated or not, YOU WIN. If that injustice against you is made right or not, YOU WIN. If that lying cheating spouse gets what’s coming to him or her or not, YOU WIN. If the judge rules in your favor or not, YOU WIN.
If you are a Child of God and Follower of Jesus Christ you win, HEADS or TAILS!
See you at the finish line!
